Megan Hairston began serving as one of the Ministers for Family and Children at NLR First United Methodist Church in November of 2018. She and her husband joined the church with their two children in 2015. Since then, she has served on the Children’s Ministry Team for two years and as a bible school teacher. In addition, she has served as co-director of Vacation Bible School for the past two years.
Megan was raised in Springfield, Missouri, and following graduation from Springfield’s Parkview High School in 1998 received a B.A. with a double major in Elementary and Special Education and a minor in Bible from Harding University in 2001. While she loves teaching all learners, her passion has been in reaching the lives of young learners, having taught Kindergarten for over 12 years! This year she began a new chapter in her 18-year public teaching career when she was asked to move up to middle school, taking a 6th-8th grade CBI (Community Based Instruction) Special Education classroom.
Megan is excited about the opportunity to put her biblical training in use, as she begins this new journey as a children’s minister! But when she has a few minutes, she enjoys cooking and baking for family and friends (she’s a total foodie), reading a good book, gardening, and playing games with her precious family!
