Missions Team

Our Missions Team identifies and offers on-going mission opportunities for NLR FUMC church members.  Radical mission is essential to the growth and outreach of the church as well as the key component of Jesus’s command to love your neighbor.  Radical mission is stepping out of your comfort zone to serve Jesus Christ.  Those who do so receive a joy from God that can be obtained in no other way.  And those who are served are offered the opportunity to see and hear what Christianity really is.

The Missions Team has regular collections of food items, disaster needs, health needs, diapers, etc. that are donated to AR Rice Depot, United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and local food pantries.  The Missions Team also sponsors volunteer trips to various organizations such as Arkansas Rice Depot, the only statewide faith-based hunger relief organization in the state.

Emergency Response

Our trained Emergency Response Team heads out when disasters strike in our area and beyond.  They answer the call to help our neighbors with willing hands and hearts, and a fully equipped trailer.  In recent years we've sent team members to Nashville, Vilonia and Moore, OK (tornadoes), Royal and Parks (flooding), and Jacksonville (church fire) to offer emotional and spiritual support while working with our hands together with teams from throughout the state.  Another training session is currently being planned for new team members and to re-certify those already trained.

Feeding the Homeless

Every fourth Monday, our Missions Team participates in feeding the homeless and hungry by preparing and serving a nutritious meal to as many as 100 people under the Broadway Bridge.  They solicit volunteers, including the Boy Scout Troop, youth classes and adult classes to participate by serving the meal.

Serving School Children

Our church provides weekend meals for children in need at Indian Hills Elementary through the Backpack Ministry.  Last school year 15 families with 66 children received food each weekend through food and monetary donations provided by the congregation.

A men’s program of volunteers greet all children as they arrive at this neighboring school each day to offer a smile and encouragement to start their day.  Other volunteers provide both literacy and math tutoring to several age groups of students at Indian Hills, Sylvan Hills and Sherwood Elementary Schools.

Around the World

Our Missions Team has conducted ten years of both medical and construction mission teams to Rio Bravo, MX, assisting Manos Juntas (Hands Together) to minister to their people.

Join Us!

We are continually looking for new team members who have a passion for working towards Christ’s command.  If you would like to be a part of this joyful team, please contact any of the team members.  We meet the second Sunday of each month at 4 p.m. at the church.
